LA BELLE ET LA BÊTE NECKLACE
1/2

This one-of-a-kind necklace transforms a medieval bronze or copper-alloy horse-harness pendant into a bold contemporary jewel. Likely Western European and dating to the medieval period, the openwork pendant depicts an advancing wolf or hound-like beast within a circular frame, its ancient surface bearing the richly aged patina of centuries. Such pendants once ornamented the tack of horses, adding movement, symbolism and status to bridles, reins and other equestrian trappings.

Now suspended from a sleek silver collar and accented with a vivid 0.61 carat Burma ruby, the ancient pendant takes on a new sculptural presence. The ruby’s modern brilliance heightens the contrast with the timeworn bronze, creating a powerful meeting of medieval artistry and contemporary design.
